So perhaps you have seen the Come dine with me tv show and now we would like to introduce you to G2′s simpler version. In March we will be launching a new initiative called “Come dine with me”.
This November, our ‘cluster’ met to prepare Christmas hampers for the Besom. Rob Ainsworth set up the Besom to act as a bridge between people in the church who want to help others, and those who are genuinely in need. You can’t very well go knocking on people’s doors asking if you can clear their garden or paint their bedroom, but there are plenty of people in our community who can’t do those things themselves and who are struggling to get by.
Canon Andrew White is known as the ‘Vicar of Baghdad’ as his church is the only remaining Anglican church in Iraq.
He has an amazing testimony, having been involved in a ministry of reconciliation and conflict in the Middle East for a long time. We are very fortunate in that he is coming to York for one day for a series of meetings on 6 February.
Two of these are at St Michael le Belfrey Church: 12.30pm to 1.15pm there will be a drop in meeting, followed by a church leaders session at 1.30pm. These meetings are open to all.
In addition to this there is a public evening meeting at 7.30pm at Archbishop Holgates school at 7.30pm.
We highly recommend you try and get to one of these if you can – you won’t want to miss him.
Just before Christmas, Susie & Dan Finn’s Cluster met together for a Christmas party. It was no ordinary Christmas party as you’re about to find out! Katherine and Ben Sinclair invited everyone to a Murder Mystery Party at their house. Everybody came dressed as a different character and brought food to share. I’ll pass you over to Jeeves to tell you more about it!A ‘sworded’ affairAs I entered the warm and cosy living room of two respectable christian friends last Thursday night at a G2 cluster group meeting I was harrassed by a crazed and deranged welshman wearing a straw hat. He shook me by the shoulders and asked, “Do you want to buy some heroin?” Not the usual question you expect to hear at a Christian cell group…I certainly didn’t have an answer prepared. I thought “maybe this poor welsh man needs my help. maybe I should pray with him or help him back on the straight and narrow”. Actually he wasn’t welsh, he was a Columbian called Jay da Silva, a drug dealer from Bogota and he was trying to shift some grade A stuff. [Read more here]
We’re very good as ‘Church’ at putting on events. As G2 we have Sunday meetings, cell groups, leadership meetings, cluster meetings, alpha courses, special one off worship events, men’s weekends. And as part of St Michael le Belfrey we have multiple congregations, we have prayer meetings, team meetings, Church weekends, carol services. We’ve got the whole ‘event’ thing pretty nailed.
It might sound strange, but I see the future of the Church, if it is to grow and see change in the future, is found not in more events, but in non-events. [Read more here]
One of the things we want to encourage in 2012 at G2 is reading the Bible – it’s one of the staple-basics of following Jesus. It’s also one of those things that we all believe in but often don’t get round to! In helping people to follow Jesus one of the most powerful things we’ve discovered is the impact of reading the Bible every day.
The Bible is like good food to be consumed daily in order to live a healthy Christian life and we don’t want to miss out. [Read more here]
Christian Selvaratnam recently filmed a short video for Christian Vision for Men‘s Codelife …

This Sunday is our Carol Service in York minster at 7pm.
The St Michael le Belfrey annual Carol service is an amazing gathering and a great opportunity to invite friends to a brilliant Christmas event. This year the speaker is Matthew Porter and there is performing arts from Riding Lights Theatre Company and a special Christmas choir. Do come along and to invite friends you can use the flyers which you can get at G2 or St Michael le Belfrey.
Please note that the inside of the Minster isn’t warm! We suggest you wear your warmest clothes with hats and gloves etc. and you may also wish to arrive early in order to get a good seat.
