This Sunday at G2, Rob Ainsworth will be speaking on how God made us for friendship and community. This community is mission and when others come into contact with it they come alive.
This Sunday at G2, Luke Smith will be talking to us about God’s mission to reach humanity and how we can play a part in that. He will be looking specifically at how we, in G2, can do this through cells, clusters and our Sunday gatherings.
I am a student at G2, studying Archaeology at the University of York in my third year. In August of this year, I am heading out with OMF to northern Thailand where I will be undertaking student and youth work with the Lisu and the Shan people. Both of these groups are a tribal, immigrant people who will often be ‘looked down on’ by many native Thai’s, due to the fact they do not originate in the country.
I will for the most part be based in a small centre in the mountainous region of Chiangmai — with a mix of youth ministry English teaching, bible teaching, small groups and practical aid. In the last century James Fraser, a British missionary, lived and evangelised among these peoples in the southern Yunnan province (part of China) – but by no means are these people for the most part Christian. I am currently on a train to York. When I arrive, which hasn’t happened yet, I will be over three hours late. My train broke, I was put on a coach with no air conditioning, was travel sick and missed a connection.
I am not in control.
Whilst on my nightmare journey I had a text from a mate who was gutted because his mate Jim, who came to Student Alpha on week 1, cant come on week 2 because of a party and heavy work load. We had prayed together that Jim would be there as he had some great God chats on the first week. My friend had to surrender that frustration to God.
